چکیده

This paper presents the study of the effects of imperfect reference signal recovery on the bit error rate (BER) performance of dual-branch switch-and-stay combining (SSC) and multibranch selection combining (SC) receivers in a generalized - fading channel. The average BER of binary and quaternary phase shift keying (BPSK and QPSK) is derived under the assumption that the reference carrier signal is extracted from the received modulated signal. For SSC receiver the optimal switching threshold (in a minimum BER sense) is numerically evaluated. Hereby we determine and discuss the simultaneous influence of the average signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) per bit, fading severity, product phase-locked loop (PLL) bandwidthbit duration (BLTb), switching threshold of SSC and diversity order of SC on BER performance. The influence of BLTb in different channel conditions and modulation formats is pointed out. The numerical results are confirmed by computer simulations.

Energy Detection of Unknown Signals over Composite multipath/shadowing Fading Channels

In this paper, the performance analysis of an energy detector is exploited over composite multipath/shadowing fading channels, which is modeled by Rayleigh-lognormal (RL) distribution. Based on an approximate channel model which was recently proposed by the author, the RL envelope probability density function (pdf) is approximated by a finite sum of weighted Rayleigh pdfs. Relying on this inter...

Performance Analysis of Maximal Ratio Diversity Receivers over Generalized Fading Channels

Diversity reception, is an efficient communication receiver technique for mitigating the detrimental effects of multi-path fading in wireless mobile channels at relatively low cost. Diversity combining is the technique applied to combine the multiple received copies of the same information bearing signal into a single improved signal, in order to increase the overall signal-to-noise ratio (SNR)...

SC and SSC diversity reception over correlated Nakagami-m fading channels in the presence of CCI

Performance analysis of switched-and-stay combining (SSC) and selection combining (SC) diversity receivers operating over correlated Nakagami-m fading channels in the presence correlated Nakagami-m distributed co-channel interference (CCI) is presented. Novel infinite series expressions are derived for the output signal to interference ratio's (SIR’s) probability density function (PDF) and cumu...

Error-rate analysis of switched diversity receivers in Weibull fading

Introduction: Diversity is an effective and widely used technique for mitigating the effects of multipath fading [1]. Among the well-known diversity techniques, switched and stay combining (SSC) is simple and cheap, though less efficient. In a dual-branch SSC receiver, if the instantaneous signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the first branch falls below a predefined switching threshold, the second b...

Partially Coherent EGC Reception of Uncoded and LDPC-Coded Signals over Generalized Fading Channels

This paper studies the bit-error rate (BER) performance of partially coherent equal-gain combining reception of uncoded and low-density parity-check (LDPC)-coded binary and quaternary phase-shift keying signals over generalized α − μ fading channels. For the uncoded signal detection case the obtained numerical and simulation results illustrate the BER performance degradation due to the imperfec...
